Every summer, the Alabama Scholastic Press Association and the College of Communication and Information Sciences welcome a group of high school students to attend the intensive, nine-day Multicultural Journalism Workshop. Students study and practice journalism under UA faculty and top journalists, learning how professionals report, write and present the news in print, online and by broadcast. ASPA Long Weekend Scheduled For June 2010

Sponsored by the Alabama Scholastic Press Association, The Long Weekend is a summer journalism camp offered in June. The camp is designed to teach creative and efficient ways to communicate through scholastic newspapers, newsmagazines, yearbooks, literary magazines and electronic media. The Long Weekend also gives students a chance to experience college life — dorms, roommates, meal tickets and more – with day and evening classes to help you gain the tools to produce prize-winning results next year. Arrive early so you'll have time to register and enjoy the campus atmosphere. ASPA State Convention Will Be Held Feb. 25-26

The Alabama Scholastic Press Association's annual state convention features nationally recognized journalism education speakers as well as area media professionals and UA faculty members. The convention welcomes hundreds of journalism teachers and students from across the state. Convention delegates can participate in an on-site competition with categories ranging from newswriting to graphic design. They can attend any of the more than 50 sessions in newspaper, literary magazine, yearbook, broadcast, marketing, advising, photography and desktop publishing. Winners of the critique and judging services are announced at the conclusion of the convention.
